Speech-Language Pathologist (Clinical Specialist)
Robin Palama is the Clinical Specialist for Inpatient Speech-Language Pathology. She is responsible for staff training, clinical education and program development as well as providing direct patient care for those patients needing cognitive, communicative and/or dysphagia therapy.
Robin joined REHAB Hospital in 1995 as a Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellow and in 1996 transitioned into a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist. She expanded her role in 2008 to Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Specialist. Her responsibilities in the clinical specialist role include advancing speech therapy competency through inservices, chart audits and co-treatments with staff.
Robin holds a bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology and a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She is a member of the Hawaii Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She specializes in treating the Stroke and Brain Injury population with experience in tracheotomies, aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, voice disorders, cognitive deficits and holds a special passion for dysphagia. She is certified in Deep Pharyngeal Neuromuscular Stimulation (1999), VitalStim (2004), McNeill Dysphagia Therapy Program (2008) and Myofascial Release for Dysphagia Management (2008).
