The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Foundation (REHAB Foundation) held its 24th annual Joy of Food and Wine event on May 6, 2022. The sold-out, in-person event at Halekulani raised $291,000 to support the needs of REHAB Hospital of the Pacific (REHAB), Hawaii’s only provider of hospital-level rehabilitation for individuals recovering from life-changing injury and illness. Showcasing Halekulani’s Banquet and Special Events Chef, Shaden Sato and special wine pairings carefully selected by Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, guests enjoyed an evening of fine food and wines.
“We’re so grateful to all who attended this signature event and supported our mission of rebuilding lives through our critical programs and services,” said Lori Suan, Chief Development Officer for REHAB Foundation. “We would like to extend a special mahalo to our title sponsors, Clyde and Holly Kaneshiro and Stanford and Kathy Carr, as well as our event chair, Dr. Laurie Tom, for their incredible efforts in making this event a success.”
Dr. Laurie Tom is an endocrinologist, REHAB Foundation Board secretary, a REHAB Hospital Board director, and the founding chair of the annual Joy of Food and Wine event. Reflecting on her role as event chair, Dr. Tom says, “It’s an honor to be a part of this much-anticipated event which helps people receive the rehabilitative care they need, right here in our community.”
REHAB is Hawaii’s only premier acute-care rehabilitation hospital dedicated to providing the highest quality, comprehensive, and innovative inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. Since 1975, REHAB has operated as a nonprofit organization aimed to rebuild lives by focusing on the individual, family, and community which is advanced through education, technology, and research.
The REHAB Foundation was established in 1984 to support the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific, its programs, and its patients. Gifts from the community allow the REHAB Foundation to enrich and enhance the rehabilitation experience for patients. Funding provides vital support for medical equipment purchases, scholarships, patient care programs, and capital improvement projects, all with one goal: maximizing each patient’s recovery.
