The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Foundation (REHAB Foundation) held its 27th annual First Hawaiian Bank REHAB Golf Challenge on July 1, 2021 at the Hawaii Prince Golf Club. The sold-out, in-person tournament raised $125,000 to support the financial needs of REHAB Hospital of the Pacific (REHAB) where lives are transformed via critical support programs and services.
“We could not have been successful without the leadership of our event co-chairs Mark Teruya and Neill Char,” said Lori Suan, Chief Development Officer for REHAB Foundation. “We are extremely grateful to them, the committee members and First Hawaiian Bank for being our title sponsor for the Golf Challenge for the past 27 years. The money raised helps about 11,000 patients annually who are serviced by REHAB Hospital’s programs and services.”
The funds will support REHAB’s core services and innovative programs, including the iCare Cancer Exercise Rehabilitation Study and the Pulmonary Recovery Circuit Program. The iCare program, a collaborative study between REHAB and the University of Hawaii, offers free personalized training sessions to adults who have been diagnosed and treated for any type of cancer. The pulmonary program is a new program that helps those who have recovered from COVID-19 or have other respiratory illnesses improve their breathing, stamina, fitness, and overall health.
REHAB is Hawaii’s only premier acute-care rehabilitation hospital dedicated to providing the highest quality comprehensive and innovative inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. Specially designed programs include stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedics, amputee, and general rehabilitation. Since 1975 REHAB has operated as a nonprofit organization aimed to rebuild lives by focusing on the individual, family, and community; advanced through education, technology and research.
The REHAB Foundation was established in 1984 solely to support the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific, its programs and patients. Gifts from the community allow the REHAB Foundation to enrich and enhance the rehabilitation experience for patients. Funding provides vital support for medical equipment purchases, scholarships, patient care programs and capital improvement projects all with one goal in mind: to maximize each patient’s recovery.
